CARSON CITY (AP) - Former Nevada Controller Steve Martin says he plans to seek the Republican nomination as state treasurer in this year's election.

Martin was appointed controller to fill out the term of Kathy Augustine following her death in 2006. Augustine's husband was later convicted of her murder.

Martin served for about six month and ran for the job that year, but lost of Democrat Kim Wallin.

The incumbent state treasure, Kate Marshall, is a Democrat in her first term.

Martin is a certified public accountant and serves on the State Board of Finance.
