A deal is a deal is a deal...dinner for two, a play ("Murder at the Tony Lou Awards"), a night in a nice room at the Gold Dust West, AND breakfast the next morning ... all for $107. Just call the GDW at 885-9000 and make your reservations for the Proscenium Players production on Jan. 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30, at 6 p.m. Of course, if you only want the "dinner-theater" part, call Eloise (883-6442) or Jonni (883-9386), and for $35 general or $32 seniors, students, PPI and GDW Player's Club members, you will still have a great time. Invite a date. Culture it ain't, but fun ... yes!

Carson Area Wellness Association (CAWA) is selling "Carsonopoly," a game similar to Monopoly, for $25. It benefits their programs, and you can buy it at Nevada Public Health Foundation, 3579 Highway 50 E, Ste. C, or Sierra Dietetics, 302 N. Minnesota St., both in Carson City. Have fun, and learn about the town, too.

Well, before their regulation by Congress, the credit card companies are having a ball raising interest or fees anyway they can, as Senators Reid and Ensign and Congressman Heller already know. If you cancel a card, they say it will hurt your credit rating. We spoke to Equifax, and they said if you are current in your payments, and owe nothing on your card, it would only "hurt" you for a couple of months. Say what? And they call Madoff a crook. Do not cancel your cards if you are thinking of buying a house or car on credit, since they have to look at your "credit history" before they approve you. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. This recession has helped us to find the value in good old fashioned cash, and paying as we go. Just think how the credit companies would feel if we all did that. One collective crash heard round the world. Yow!

Some definitions from Michael Nunes and the Internet: "Does the name Pavlov ring a bell?" "When two egotists meet, it's an I for an I." "What's the definition of a will? (It's a dead giveaway)" A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion." And, "Once you've seen one shopping center, you've seen a mall."

Happy Birthdays to the following (on time and belated): Eloise Koenig; Jessi Winchester; Helen Banovich; John Ascuaga; Michael Wilson; Sarah Kerkla; Kapone Fuller; Reed Lequerica (C's grandson); Rufus (70 or 77 in dog years?); and an especial one to Vivian Bargmann, 90 years young, from her "kids," Greg, Debby and Jeff. She's a veteran of WWII and a Carson resident of 30 years. Hooray for all. Then, get well wishes go out to Al Nicholson and Marty Tate; and best wishes to Suzie and Pete on getting married in Hawaii New Year's Eve. And, a big thank you to Father Chuck and Sister Marie from the Big C (for what, M doesn't know).

We saw in a news item in the Appeal last week ("Bicycle dancer..."), that the young man who rode his three wheeler, sang and waved to people on different corners around town, had been shot and killed in Oakland two days before Christmas. His name was Darnell Foster and the Appeal said he had moved back to California recently. He was sort of one of our "town characters." We are sorry for his tragic end ... may he now rest in peace.
