Former Oroville, Calif., resident Laura Lee Casagrande Wetzel, 84, of Carson City died Thursday, January 7, 2010, after a brief illness. She was born in Santa Maria, Calif., on April 2, 1925, to Jacob and Otelia Peck. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Frances Peck McKillop.
She attended school in Santa Maria and Yreka, Calif. She married Carlos Eugene Casagrande on June 30, 1946, at the First Congregational Church in Oroville. He passed away January 7, 1990. She later reunited with former classmate Robert Wetzel and married October 1, 1995, in Carson City,.
She worked at Oroville Bank of America for 33 years as a teller, loan officer and branch manager.
She was very active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority both in Oroville and in Carson City. While in Oroville she also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and Soroptomist Club.
She enjoyed sewing, especially doll clothes, shopping and playing cards with her girly-do friends.
Laura Lee is survived by her husband of 14 years, Robert; sons David (Cheryl), Bruce (Sally) and Gary (Anne) and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. As well as 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren on Robert's side.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, with the service immediately following at Oroville Funeral Home, 1454 Montgomery Street, Oroville.
