LOGAN, Utah - The University of Nevada women's basketball team remained perfect in WAC play improving to 3-0 with a 69-58 win at Utah State Wednesday night in Logan, Utah.
With the win, Nevada improved to 3-0 in the WAC (9-8 overall) marking the third straight year the Pack has opened its conference season 3-0. Utah State fell to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the WAC
Utah State had a five-point lead, 11-6, with 16:09 left in the first half before the Pack went on a 12-3 run capped by a three pointer from Tahnee Robinson to go ahead by four, 18-14, with 12:32 remaining in the half.
The Aggies tied the game at 21-21 with 10:12 left to play in the first half before Marianne Lombardi scored five consecutive points for the Pack to extend Nevada's lead to 26-21 with just over eight minutes to play.
Utah State cut Nevada's lead to two, 30-28, with 4:05 left in the half, before Johnna Ward's fourth three pointer of the half put Nevada up by six, 36-30, with a minute and as half left. Nevada went into the half leading, 36-32.
Ward led all scorers at half with 18 points while Shavon Moore and Lombardi each recorded five. Amanda Johnson led the Pack with three rebounds. Nevada shot 40.0 percent (12-of-30) from the floor while Utah State shot 44.4 percent (12-of-27)
Nevada opened the second half and extended its lead to eight points, 44-36, on a three pointer by Amanda Johnson with two minutes gone in the second half. Utah State cut Nevada's lead to one before the Pack pushed its lead back to eight on a three pointer by Robinson, 54-46, with 8:19 left in the half.
The Pack held the Aggies scoreless for nearly six minutes as Nevada extended its lead to 13, 64-51 with 2:17 left in the game.
Ward led Nevada with 18 points while Nicole Williams and Robinson each added 11 and Moore scored 10. More and Robinson each added seven boards. Nevada shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the floor for the game while Utah State shot 36.2 percent (21-of-58). The Pack outrebounded the Aggies 39-32 marking the 10th straight game the Pack has outrebounded it opponent.
