Continued from Wednesday: Dan DeQuille's Coup D'Etat - Mark Twain took a brand from the campfire when Dan yelled "Hold on," as he rammed something into the mouth of the piece of the Howitzer and remarked, "Turn 'er loose." "What in h-- did you put in?" asked Mark. "A column of solid nonpareil and a couple of sticks of your Spring poetry ... "The poetry did the business, Dan. Get one of your geological articles ready for the next charge."

M. E. Spooner's horses ran away with a sleigh full of young ladies while turning the corner near the Presbyterian church where the runners struck a stump. Horses were caught at the North Ward school house.
