Gratitude to Dayton- area community

As a result of the help of so many individuals, businesses, and groups, Dayton Food Bank will be able to continue providing for the needs of our community.

These times are difficult for many, but knowing we have the support of the community fortifies our commitment.

Because so many are pulling together, we are still able to serve the needs of the community which have increased from about 300 in need of food bank last winter to nearly 700 in need this winter.

The food bank is made possible by the Northern Nevada Food Bank, Lyon County Human Services, and Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, with additional generous donations from individuals, as well as food and hygiene drives by Dayton Schools and dozens of clubs and donations from area businesses.

In addition, dozens volunteer their valuable time and skills to making the food bank run smoothly. We are very grateful for the volunteer help of individuals, churches, civic groups, and clubs throughout the year.

Once again, many thanks to the community for all of the generous support through volunteer work, food drives and monetary donations. We are exceedingly grateful.

Jacks Valley Buddies program a success

Jacks Valley Elementary School would like to thank everyone who contributed to a successful holiday season and our Back Pack Buddies Program.

Our community went above and beyond to help our families, so this goes out to: Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Nancy Stiles, Lin Larson, Deb Probert, RUAH Foundation, Lira's Market, Douglas High Block D Club, Pinion Hills Elementary, Grand Sierra Resort, Project Santa Claus and everyone else who showed they care!

Swimmers generously donated to those in need

The Carson Aquatic Facility would like to thank all our generous swimmers who donated to our Food for F.I.S.H. and Salvation Army Angel Tree drives.

We took several loads of gifts to Salvation Army and several trash cans full of canned goods to the food bank.

Thanks to all of you, many in the community had a brighter holiday season.

Donations shelter animals appreciated

Douglas Animal Welfare Group DAWG thanks our community for their generous holiday donations of pet food, Kong toys, dog collars, and cat litter at our first Holiday Gift Tree located at Max's Pet Supplies store in the Gardnerville Raley's shopping center.

We were so pleased and surprised to be called to empty the big box eight times! Several times it was overflowing.

DAWG members, Max's owner Kori Snyder and the Animal Shelter staff are very grateful that people also remembered the dogs and cats at the shelter during the holidays, filling the shelter's storage shelves with good food and things to help them stay healthy while waiting for new homes.

Thanks to Kori for giving DAWG space in her store for the gift tree. She has been a long time supporter of the animal shelter and DAWG. Thanks again to all who gave so much.

Many partners make Talking Wall

Partnership Carson City held its first Kids' Talking Wall at the Carson Mall, for 2010 on Saturday, Jan. 9.

This event takes place the second Saturday of every month, offering free entertainment, books, activities, featuring a voice for children exhibit during the month, as well as, offer free educational parenting materials, tools and services.

Partnership Carson City would like to acknowledge and thank the following individuals and their business for their donation of time, talent, and expertise to the children in our community: Michael Gracey, New York Life Insurance free Child I.D.
