Northern Nevada in for wet week

High winds and snow are expected to cause travel delays when the first in a string of three storms arrives in the region late Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Snow isn't expected below 5,500 feet Sunday night and Monday, but is expected to accumulate in Carson City by mid-week.

The third storm, expected Wednesday, will be the strongest in the series, potentially bringing blizzard conditions in the Sierra and heavy rain and snow in the

valleys.

Meteorologists have backed off earlier predictions of 10 feet of snow in the Lake Tahoe area next week, but say it isn't out of the realm of possibility.

The National Weather Service in Reno is now predicting two to four feet at the lake.

"Ten feet is not out of the question, but it's at the higher end of the spectrum," said Katie LaBelle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
