OGDEN, Utah (AP) - Elena Hight of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., won the women's snowboard superpipe final at the Winter Dew Tour for the first time Saturday night, and Danny Davis of Highland, Mich., won his second consecutive final in the men's event.
Hight, 20, had a run that included a frontside 540, a backside 900 and a cab 720 to earn her a winning score of 92.50. Kaitlyn Farrington of Sun Valley, Idaho, and Spanish-native Queralt Castellet, both also 20, came in second and third, respectively. Farrington earned a score of 88.25, and Castellet followed behind with an 81.25.
"I haven't had a win in a couple years, so it feels really good to win tonight," Hight said. "I'm excited with how I rode and really looking forward to the finals in a couple weeks at the Toyota Championship."
Davis, 21, earned his second straight Winter Dew Tour victory, finishing with a top score of 96.00, coming close to beating his record-setting score of 96.50, which he earned in Breckenridge, Colo., last month. Davis threw out a huge front 1080 double cork to seal the win.
Steve Fisher of Breckenridge, Colo., held the first-place position throughout the majority of the final until Davis came up for the final run of the night. Fisher, 27, finished second with a score of 91.75. Davis' fellow Frends crew member Jack Mitrani, 21, of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., was third at 84.75.
"I'm definitely excited about the win tonight, and it's always good to land on the podium with your friends," Davis said.
Sunday's events include the snowboard and freeski slopestyle finals.
