LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County commissioners have appointed a retired police lieutenant to fill the Nevada Senate seat vacated last year by Republican Warren Hardy.

Stan Olsen, a lobbyist for Las Vegas police and a police managers union, will temporarily fill the seat until the November election. He says he's not interested in running for the office.

Commissioners made the appointment Tuesday.

Hardy was cleared of an ethics complaint by the state Supreme Court last year. But he resigned from the Senate after the 2009 legislative session to avoid conflicts in his expanded role as head of the Associated Builders and Contractors.

Though the Legislature doesn't convene until 2011, Olsen was appointed to the District 12 seat in case Gov. Jim Gibbons calls a special legislative session to deal with the state's budget problems.
