Douglas County businessman Jim Wheeler has announced he will run for the Assembly seat being vacated by James Settelmeyer.
Wheeler, a Republican, is former CEO of Powerdyne Automotive Products.
"For years now we have done business as usual with politicians in control of our destinies," he said. "It is time to implement some common sense solutions to our problems."
Settelmeyer has decided to leave his Assembly seat after two terms to run for the Nevada Senate seat being vacated by Mark Amodei of Carson City.
"It is my intention to bring fresh ideas, fresh debates and Republican values to our state Assembly," Wheeler said in announcing his candidacy.
