PALO ALTO, Calif. - Caltrain officials say a train struck and killed a 19-year-old man near the same Palo Alto crossing where four high school students have committed suicide in the past year.
Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn says the victim was hit by a train around 11:45 p.m. Friday.
Dunn said Saturday that it's too soon to tell whether the man struck Friday night was hit accidentally or committed suicide. The Santa Clara County coroner has not released his name.
The city of Palo Alto in December said it was hiring private security guards to monitor the crossing, and residents were also keeping watch.
