Luke Babbitt's 29 points Saturday night in an 87-77 loss at Fresno State made the sophomore the 21st player in school history to score at least 1,000 points in his Wolf Pack basketball career.
The Wolf Pack's career leader in points scored is Nick Fazekas, with 2,464. Both Fazekas and Babbitt, oddly enough, each went over 1,000 points in their careers in a game at Fresno State.
Fazekas did it the night of Feb. 26, 2005 in a 76-63 Wolf Pack victory. Fazekas scored 28 points (one less than Babbitt on Saturday) that night against the Bulldogs in his 61st career game (Babbitt reached the milestone in his 54th game). That game in February 2005 also gave Fazekas 1,004 career points, one more than Babbitt has now.
Babbitt is the third Pack player to join the 1,000-point club this year, joining teammates Armon Johnson and Brandon Fields. Babbitt, Johnson and Fields give the Pack three current 1,000-point club members on the same team for the first time in school history.
The 2006-07 team (Nick Fazekas, Marcellus Kemp), the 2003-04 team (Kirk Snyder, Gary Hill-Thomas), the 1991-92 team (Ric Herrin, Kevin Soares) and the 1978-79 team (Edgar Jones, Mike Gray) each had two.
Johnson is now 13th on the Pack career scoring list with 1,228 points, Fields is 16th overall at 1,078 points and Babbitt is 21st (1,003). With a minimum of 11 games remaining this year (10 regular season, one WAC tournament), all three could be in the Top 12 in Pack career scoring by the end of the year.
