The case of the missing school tricycles was solved Wednesday when a woman saw a photograph in the newspaper that matched trikes she found in her front yard early last week.
On Jan. 18, Jan Gray left her home on Musser Street to go to work when she saw one tricycle against her husband's truck, she said. When Gray went to move it she found another behind the truck and a third resting against her son's vehicle across the street.
Gray said her husband went to the sheriff's office tell of the discovery, but was told no one had reported them lost.
So the Grays collected the trikes and put them away for safekeeping.
On Wednesday morning, Gray spotted an article in the Nevada Appeal explaining the trikes were missing from St. Teresa Child Development Center four blocks south.
Center Director Jan Sullivan noticed the specialty tricycles missing from the school's fenced yard last Wednesday.
She said the school was closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and no one played outside on Tuesday because of the snow.
Sullivan said the same person who took the trikes out of the yard must also have taken a statue of the Virgin Mary and unceremoniously dumped her upside down in a trash can. The statue was not damaged.
And, said Sullivan, the culprits also left behind an empty beer can and beer bottle.
