Marketing meeting for PR and business professionals planned

The Carson Area Marketing & PR Network will hold its next meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Marilyn Lewis State Farm office, 321 W. Winnie Lane. New members are welcome. The meeting is free.

Google expert to discuss rural Nevada tourism

Ryan Denny, a strategist for Google, will address the Nevada Commission on Tourism on ways to succeed at online advertising at its 20th annual Rural Roundup conference in Winnemucca, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki announced last week.

Denny is a travel industry advertising expert for the search giant and will give the keynote address on March 25 at the three-day conference that lasts through March 26. It will take place at the Winnemucca Convention Center.

"Online advertising strategies are a hot topic for the tourism industry, and rural Nevada communities that don't have the luxury of an online marketing department will benefit from sessions on how best to utilize 21st century technology to achieve their goals," said Krolicki, who chair the tourism commission.

Among other speakers at the conference will be Roger Brooks who will discuss the "new age of rural tourism."

Bob's Shell Service adding new pumps

Bob Lamkin, owner of Bob's Shell Service, 705, N. Carson St., is installing new fuel pumps that will include anti-fraud devices for electronic payments.

The pumps will also include diesel fuel, a first for Bob's, which has been a full-service garage in Carson City for 31 years.

Lamkin said the upgrade cost about $65,000.

Business recruiter announces new

advisory board

Nevada Business Connections announces today the advisory board for 2010-2011.

The new members include: Paul Enos, Nevada Motor Transport Association; Darryl Rubarth, Exyst.com; Pat Langhoff, Langhoff Consulting; Brian Wallace, Nevada State Development Corporation; and Michael Buis, Pacific States Communications.

Nono's opening consignment shop

Nanette Toland, owner of Nono's Home Decor, is opening a consignment shop inside her Topsy Lane store, 3790 US Highway 395.

The shop, called Nono's Sweet Repeats, will accept and offer "upscale, better labeled" clothing, Toland said.

Toland shared the store with Karen Holmes, who owns It's All About Me, a clothing boutique. Holmes recently moved to the Carson Mall.

Toland said she will stage a grand reopening on Feb. 10, adding she is considering a move to the Carson Mall, adding, "We'll just ride out the rest of the bad economy and we''ll figure out where we need to be."

Area bank reports $10.7M earning

Eldorado Saving's Bank reported $10.7 million in earnings in 2009, a 12 percent increase over 2008, the bank announced Thursday.

"We are very pleased with the strong performance of the bank, especially considering the challenging economic environment," said Chairman and CEO Thomas C. Meuser.

The bank had about $1.65 billion in assets at the end of 2009, a $34.4 million increase over 2008. The bank also announced it had no foreclosed properties on its books at the end of the year, too.

The bank has a branches in Carson City and Gardnerville.

Chamber breakfast to feature 'Work the Pond' award

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will hold its next breakfast meeting on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. inside the Gold Dust West, 21717 Highway 50 East.

The light breakfast will feature a second "Work the Pond" seminar from Bob Morin.

20 jobs expected to come with new Sparks company

A Buffalo, N.Y., based screen manufacturerr is opening a new production, warehouse and distribution center in Sparks, scheduled to open in February.

The company, Buffalo Wire Works Co. Inc., will take over a 19,200-square-foot plant at 1430 Kleppe Lane and is expected to employ about 20 in its first year.

Group to try to recruit Oregon businesses

Nevada Business Connections, a private business recruiter based in Carson City, said it is creating a task force to try and attract Oregon companies after voters there approved two ballot measures to increase personal income taxes on the state's richest taxpayers and the minimum corporate income tax.

The recruitment organization said it is planning newspaper, television and radio ads while representatives from Nevada meet with companies interested in making a move to the Silver State.
