The Apostle Paul wrote, "We have different gifts, according to the grace given us ... if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously."
Macedonian churches contributed generously to the needs of destitute Christians in first century Jerusalem. Their generosity amazed the Apostle Paul. He wrote, "Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will." (II Corinthians 8:2-5.)
Paul understood that their generosity was a "grace that God had given." (II Corinthians 8:1).
The eyes of the world are riveted on Haiti. The horrific photos and videos of the massive earthquake's aftermath are heart wrenching.
Here is an opportunity for missionaries, charitable organizations and everyone who has given himself "first to the Lord" to be used of God in a mighty way.
A few people have pointed fingers of blame. Instead, let us open our hearts and hands to the people of Haiti. Let's join in the effort.
Let's pray. Let's give. Let the world see the heart and hands of Jesus!
