A journey along the eastern Sierra by stage: "We went through Lone Pine, and not a pine within 20 miles of the place, either lone nor married, that I could see," said Pant. "Possibly an earthquake swallowed them all up in 1873. The marks of that general upheaval are still visible. I am hungry, and haven't eaten since 5 and we won't until 10:30." 100 YEARS AGO
One of the most important plants in the state is Nevada Gypsum Company's mill and quarry in Mound House, some seven miles from this city. This plant was put into the black by Governor Adams. With the operation of one hundred and fifty tons per day, a tram was placed to bring the gypsum to the mill.
70 YEARS AGO
Carson City telephone subscribers will for the first time get information from local operators. By calling the switchboard, users can get school bus schedules, weather forecasts, road conditions in Douglas and Storey counties, time and place of local social and sporting events and starting times for local movies. "Now that is something," says the editor.
