RENO (AP) - A 52-year-old California man has been arrested for suspicion of trafficking methamphetamine after he passed a Nevada state trooper going more than 100 miles per hour.
Trooper Chuck Allen says Dirk Magnum of Oakland raced through Reno in a green Jaguar during rush hour on Interstate 80 Tuesday evening. At one point he drove on the paved shoulder to bypass the traffic jam.
Magnum explained when he was stopped that he had just bought the sports car and was testing how fast it could go. Officers found 14 grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe in his car.
He was booked into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of trafficking methamphetamine, possession of meth, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released Wednesday on $32,500 bail.
