A 15-year-old Gardnerville girl who had been missing for three days was found safe Wednesday at Sand Harbor.
Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey said Morgan Karnofel was spotted at the beach in the afternoon by a family friend who contacted the sheriff's office.
Washoe County sheriff's deputies found her at the beach and transported her to the Incline Village sheriff's substation where a parent picked her up, Halsey said.
Morgan's mother Kathy Hukari said Thursday her daughter was tired and hadn't eaten for a couple of days, but was otherwise safe and sound.
"She was scared to come home because she was afraid she would be in trouble," Hukari said. "She is tired and hungry, but otherwise safe."
She said Morgan would be held accountable for her behavior.
Hukari said she was grateful to the community for their support over the last few days.
"I just want to express my thankfulness to the community for helping to bring Morgan home," Hukari said. "Everyone was there for us with their support and helping look for her."
