Tickets on sale for Carson Valley Taste of the Towns

The Douglas County Historical Society is gearing up for the "Taste of the Towns" fundraiser

5-9 p.m. Aug 7 from at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center.

Several new restaurants in Gardnerville and Minden are participating and additional businesses will participate in a parking lot sale. To participate in the sale, call 265-6097.

Tickets for the Taste of Towns are now on sale at the Museum and Cultural Center. Members of the Historical Society are $20; nonmembers are $25.

BLM seeks nominations to resource advisory council

The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City and Winnemucca Districts, is seeking public nominations for three open positions on the Sierra Front-Northwestern Resource Advisory Council, which advises the agency on public land issues.

The positions open for appointment on the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin RAC are:

• One representative of Native American tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the RAC is organized to serve a full three-year term;

• One representative of interests associated with transportation or rights of way to serve a two-year term; and

• One representative who is employed by a state agency responsible for management of natural resources, land or water to serve a one-year term.

Nominations should be made on the appropriate nomination form, which is available at any BLM office, or on the internet at www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/res/resource_advisory.html. Nominees must be a resident of Nevada.

The BLM will accept nominations through close of business on July 29.

RPEN to celebrate summer with picnic

Retired Public Employees of Nevada will have its annual potluck picnic beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mills Park in Carson City.

All retired public employees are invited. Several candidates will be in attendance.

Cowboy cooking and some tasting, too

Robert A. Nylen, curator of history at Nevada State Museum, continues his popular lecture series about all things Nevadan at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sierra Place Senior LIving Community, 1111 W. College Pkwy.

This month, Nylen will discuss and share old tried and true cowboy recipes, including the famous Vinegar Pie.

Ballroom dance class begins July 22

A new 15-week class in ballroom dance is 6:45-8:45 p.m. Mondays beginning July 12 at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Larry Ward, with 55-years experience in dance, will instruct the class for adults and teenagers. Dances to be covered are the cha-cha, waltz, Texas two step, east coast swing, American tango, salsa, fox trot and rumba.

Sign-ups will be taken at the first two classes on July 12 and July 19.

Happy Senior Tours to go to Harvey's Lake Tahoe

The Carson City Senior Center's "Happy Senior Tours" group will travel to Harvey's July 13.

The bus will load at 7:45 a.m. in the east parking lot of the senior center. It will depart at 8:15 a.m. sharp and return to the center at 4 p.m.
