130 YEARS AGO

Our pet spider: There is some unknown party who takes great interest in starting a menagerie in the Appeal office. In the pigeon holes on the back of the editor's desk are two horned toads, a lizard eight inches long and a garter snake in a jar. All are alive. Nothing however, draws us away like the spiders building nests above our desk. On full moons in the summertime, one old grey spider, the size of a silver dollar, comes down to walk across the paper as if to inspect our work. He has become quite invaluable as of late, because he knows who belongs at the desk and who doesn't. One poor soul was bitten, in his bed for almost a week.

100 YEARS AGO

The shifting sands of Death Valley have again uncovered another prospector, a victim of the area and its heat. The skeleton was found not far from Death Valley Scotty's place and a victim of murder.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Raby Newton entertained several friends at her home on Nevada Street. Those invited were mesdames JohnD Winters, Bernard Hartung, George Gottschalk, Stanley Sundeen, Herbert Swinburne, Alan Bible, Mary Van Cleve, and Miss Ulice Newton.
