The fireworks display at Mills Park on the Fourth of July attracted scores of locals, said Janice Ayres, the executive director of the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, which organizes the event.

"It went very well. Mills Park was packed and all the side streets and over at the old Scolari's parking lot was just packed," Ayres said. "We had a really big turnout and I thought the fireworks show went very well."

The show cost $20,000 and proceeds from the carnival provided RSVP with at least $12,000.

She said this year's 25-minute fireworks display was possible thanks to donations by Carson Toyota and Scion, Gold Dust West Casino, NV Energy, Carson Nugget, Wells Fargo, Adele's, the Carson City Office of Business Development and Inland Empire Shows, which ran the carnival.

Ayres said she was hoping for more donations for the fireworks show from spectators.

"That could have been better," she said. "I was thinking to myself ... if all those people donated $10 we'd have them all paid for."

"I saw all the kids, it made me happy," Ayres said. "They were having such a good time, I'd hate to see that go away."
