Fancy fishing - piscatorial delights: It is said that Doc Benton who considered himself an expert fisherman, tried a hundred different flies in one day and never got a nibble. He finally grabbed his fly book and hurling it into the stream and yelled, "There d-- you take your choice."

120 YEARS AGO

Cowan's lip: Day before yesterday Cowan's upper lip began to swell, outgrowing his mustache about five to one. Bets four to one are offered that the mustache will be shut out, with no takers. Cowan says he experiences no pain and cannot account for the swelling, unless he made mistake and smoked a firecracker on the 4th.

70 YEARS AGO

A 10-year survey of women college revealed that a majority of college trained women are earning $28.50 a week while the average hosiery worker earns $21.

Annett Randall wins the Nevada Day County contest. The project was open to all students of Nevada history with Randall's winning essay entitled, "Ninety-Seven Years of Volunteers" a narrative on early-day firefighters of Ormsby county.
