Concerts at the Carson Mall this summer
The Carson Mall will host Capital City Summer Concerts at the Cove, located on the Stewart Street side of the mall on Tuesday and Friday nights at 5 p.m.
The series will feature rock and blues on Friday nights and blues and jazz every Tuesday night in July and August.

Pottery demonstration at NAA gallery
Lori Nourse, a potter with the Nevada Artists Association, will put on a free demonstration for the public and other members at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the NAA Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. Nourse will cover all aspects of what it takes to create fine pottery - materials, planning, design, and finishing. The demonstration will be in the Gallery at the BAC.

Dog Days of Summer offered at Fuji Park
The Dog Days of Summer will be a day of fun for pooches and people at Fuji Park today. Events are from 8 a.m. to
1 p.m. and include agility fun runs, rally fun match, conformation fun match, dog washing and canine good citizen testing.
There is a small fee for each of these activities, or bring a donation of pet food to benefit Pets of the Homeless.

New opening act for Concert Under The Stars
Bob Gardner, "The Tunesmith's Apprentice," will open for the Sons of Champlin during the Concert Under The Stars. Gardner, a Carson City-area resident, will replace the previously planned band.
The Concert Under The Stars begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Adele's Restaurant in conjunction with the Brewery Arts Center. The concert is a fundraiser for The Greenhouse Project, which seeks to establish and operate a community-based greenhouse using renewable energy sources and ecologically sustainable growing methods.
Tickets for the concert are $35 for general admission and $60 for premium seating.

Ballroom dance class begins Monday
A new 15-week class in ballroom dance is 6:45-8:45 p.m. Mondays beginning July 12 at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.
Larry Ward, with 55-years experience in dance, will instruct the class for adults and teenagers. Dances to be covered are the cha-cha, waltz, Texas two step, east coast swing, American tango, salsa, fox trot and rumba.
Sign-ups will be taken at the first two classes on Monday and July 19.

Math and technology camp offered at UNR
The 12th annual Northern Nevada Girls Math & Technology Camp will be July 11-16 at the College of Education, University of Nevada, Reno.
Camp participants include 60 Northern Nevada girls of varied abilities and backgrounds who will enter the seventh or eighth grade this fall.
The camp is a residential overnight program held on the UNR campus. Instructional topics include geometry/spatial skills, algebra, data analysis and probability, problem solving/reasoning, and computer/calculator use.
Campers also will learn about famous female mathematicians in history and hear a guest speaker discuss the ways she uses math and/or technology on the job.

Library parking lot to be closed for 2 weeks
The Carson City Library parking lot will be closed July 19 through Aug. 4 as Carson City makes street improvements. Patrons are encouraged to use parking accommodations provided by Smith's Food & Drug Center, adjacent to the library. Passage between the rear of the library and Smith's parking lot will be accessible through an open fence.
Book drops have been conveniently located behind the library, in the Smith's parking lot and behind City Hall.
Physically challenged patrons will find access to the library difficult during this period. Patrons who are dependent on wheelchairs, walkers, scooters or have mobility concerns, are encouraged to contact Sandy DeVaney at 887-2244 ext. 1015 to discuss temporary homebound services.

Washo basket weaving to be presented
Master Native American basket weaver Sue Coleman will present "Washo Basket Weaving and Culture: a Family Tradition" from 7-8 p.m. July 22 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St.
Coleman will bring examples of her award-winning baskets and some from her family, plus the raw materials and tools used in her artistic creations.
This presentation is provided in partnership with the Folklife Program of the Nevada Arts Council with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Coleman's presentation is part of the museum's Frances Humphrey Lecture series. It complements "Interwoven 2010: Visions of the Great Basin Basketmakers" on display at the museum until July 24 and "What Continues the Dream: Contemporary Arts and Crafts in the Powwow Tradition" on display until Aug. 7.

Coin Show raffle tickets on Sale at museum
In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express, the Nevada State Museum staff designed a raffle prize to celebrate this year's coin show, Aug. 27-28.
Raffle tickets are now on sale for the grand prize, a 20-ounce silver bar embedded with two one-ounce .999 150th Anniversary Pony Express medallions. Fabricated at Northwest Territorial Mint/Medallic Art and sponsored by John Etten of Heritage Collectibles, this one-of-a-kind prize is valued at $1,500.
The Pony Express Silver Bar is on exhibit with the other raffle prizes in the Dema Guinn Concourse. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and can be purchased over the phone by calling 687-4810, Ext. 237.
Proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets support education and exhibits at the Nevada State Museum. The grand prize drawing will take place at 3 pm Aug. 28. You do not need to be present to win.
The Carson City Mint Coin Show features coins and collectibles, food sales, gold panning, numismatic education and Coin Press No. 1 demonstrations.
Other raffle prizes include a $1,000 gift certificate to Northern Nevada Coin, donated by silver sponsor, Northern Nevada Coin; and an 1883 Carson City Silver Dollar, Vam 5 with GSA certificate of authenticity, donated by sponsor, Vams and More; valued at $300.
Library offers computer tutors
Carson City Library's computer tutors will provide free one-hour computer training sessions, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Mondays. These sessions will cover the World Wide Web or Microsoft Word (word processing), per the student's request. Sign-ups are required.
Tutors volunteer their time to help people learn basic skills. The computer-learning session can cover how to find information (surf) on the World Wide Web and how to word process using Microsoft Office and the various Wizard templates, such as building a resume.
Students should know how to use a keyboard. The Computer Tutor teaches only at the Carson City Library and does not provide tutoring at homes or businesses.
