LOS ANGELES (AP) - Republican Sharron Angle says her campaign to unseat Senate Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada is "a calling" on a path laid out by God.

Angle told the Christian Broadcasting Network in a Tuesday interview that "when you have God in your life ... he directs your path."

The former Nevada legislator and tea party favorite says "when God calls you he also equips you" and that she's been preparing to run against Reid for years. Her first public office was on a local school board.

She says "even Jesus had his preparatory time."

Angle says in the interview posted on the network's website that she's in the political mainstream.

Reid's campaign depicts Angle as a political extremist who would end Social Security and Medicare.
