Joe Levy, the CEO of Gottschalk by Joe Levy, said he wants to reopen Carson City's former Gottschalks location by November.

"It's a moving target and we expect to complete it," Levy said on Monday. "I don't want to give any false hopes, but I'm still very encouraged that we can put it together, and that would include Carson City."

After shuttering all 58 Gottschalks last year, Levy announced earlier this year he was restarting the department store chain as Gottschalk by Joe Levy, which would offer the same goods that Gottschalks sold, such as mid-priced apparel, cosmetics and housewares.

Still, there are many unanswered questions for the department store, said Levy, who is planning on opening stores in Clovis and Fresno, Calif.

"We still have to put the other pieces in place," he said, adding, "Carson City is taken care of."

Levy said he has met with Carson Mall owner Francis Carrington and said Carrington is "very anxious to get it going, we don't see any stumbling blocks there."

Kevin Ray, the property manager for the Carson Mall, said he could not comment on Levy's plans to reopen the Carson City store.

"We certainly don't like to talk about potential negotiations," Ray said.

Ray said the mall has entertained offers from other national retailers to fill the former Gottschalks location.
