A 2-year-old boy was pulled from the Carson River on Tuesday afternoon. He was not breathing but was revived by a nearby camper before paramedics arrived, an official said.

Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Scott McDaniel said the boy was camping with family about 2.5 miles east of Bertagnolli Aggregates off Brunswick Canyon Road when he entered the swift-moving river at about 5 p.m.

"He kind of wandered out into the water. It was really swift and he got yanked into current," said McDaniel. "They pulled him out, but he was not breathing. So an unknown camper started CPR and got the child breathing.

"Parents turn their back for a second, and this can happen."

Under Sheriff Steve Albertsen said the boy was taken by ambulance to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, where he was expected to be taken by helicopter to the trauma center in Reno.
