Lesley University awards education degrees to Carson-area students
Four Carson-area residents were among more than 2,700 graduates awarded degree at Lesley University's Centennial Commencement on May 19. The following students earned Master of Education degrees in Technology in Education at the universities School of Education.
• Lori Haller, a resident of Carson City
• Maria Frewert, a resident of Carson City
• Alan Catron, a resident of Dayton
• Gail Bushey, a resident of Minden
Lesley University, an 8,000-student, multi-site university, is one of the nation's largest providers of graduate professional education opportunities to K-12 educators.
Lesley University, founded in 1909, celebrated its centennial with commencement speaker Arne Duncan, United States Secretary of Education. Honorary Degrees were conferred upon Victoria Reggie Kennedy, founding president of Common Sense about Kids and Guns, author Chinua Achebe, and New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast. Mrs. Kennedy also accepted an honorary degree for her husband, the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy.
Eastern Oregon University student on dean's list
Cherry Davis of Stagecoach named to the spring term dean's list at Eastern Oregon University, one of more than 500 students to be named to the list.
To qualify for the EOU dean's list, students must achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the duration of the term.

Nursing degree awarded to Carson resident
Mary C. Wheeler, a resident of Carson City has earned an Associate in Science in Nursing from Excelsior College.
Excelsior College is an accredited, private, nonprofit institution that focuses on the needs of working adults. Founded in 1971 and located in Albany, N.Y., it is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Excelsior's degree programs in nursing are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The School of Nursing has been designated a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the National League for Nursing.
Minden resident makes dean's list
Lulu Yu of Minden was named to the dean's list for the spring 2010 semester at Washington University in St. Louis.
Yu is a graduate of Douglas High School in Minden and is enrolled in the university's College of Arts & Sciences.
To qualify for the Dean's List in the College of Arts & Sciences, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or above and be enrolled in at least 14 graded units.
Washington University is counted among the world's leaders in teaching and research, and it draws students and faculty to St. Louis from all 50 states and more than 125 countries. The total student body is more than 13,500 undergraduate, graduate and professional students.
