Help Nick Tickle find the props

Wild Horse Children's Theater presents the culmination of its Summer On Broadway 2010 theater workshops with "Nick Tickle, Fairy Tale Detective."

Performances are 7 p.m. July 30 plus 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. July 31 at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City.

The show will also be performed as part of Artown in Reno at 1:30 p.m. July 30 at Miguel Ribera auditorium.

Nick Tickle "is an audience participation show," said guest director and theater instructor Jonathon Josten. "Old Granny Possum is trying to tell all of her favorite fairly tales, but as soon as she starts, important props go missing."

They call on Nick Tickle to find the props, such as Hansel & Gretel's breadcrumbs, the rose from Beauty & The Beast, and the glass slipper from Cinderella plus many more.

"It's loud and crazy. It's fun and there's chances for kids (in the audience) to get up on stage," Josten said. "It's fueled by the audience. It's a good show to bring kids to and it'll be a good time."

While some of the students in the summer classes have been doing shows with Wild Horse, more than half are new, he said.

"Most of the people in the summer camp, this is their first time being in a show. That's something I really enjoy, seeing the people that haven't acted a lot, have the lead rolls.

"Working with this age group (8-14 year-olds at the workshops) is a good reminder of how to approach theater," Josten said. "It's easy to get caught up in the business aspect - worrying about money and things - but when you see kids get their lines perfect ... I love it. I just graduated, and have been working with college-aged kids a lot. It's always a good reminder to go back to some of the introductory stuff with theater."
