A discount theater in the North-gate Shopping Center is opening today.
The first showing is at 4 p.m. for Carson Stadium Cinemas, 2571 N. Carson St.
Todd Bloom-huff, owner of Bloomhuff Entertainment Inc. and Bloomhuff Theaters, refurbished the former Northgate Movies 10, which closed in February 2008, and will show eight films starting with "Shrek Forever After," "Clash of the Titans," "How To Train Your Dragon," "Robin Hood," "Iron Man 2," "Nightmare on Elm Street," "Killers" and "Get Him To The Greek."
Bloomhuff said the theater will stage a grand opening on Aug. 20.
The four-screen theater will charge $3 and show films four to six weeks after their release date.
Bloomhuff owns theaters in Reno, Tahoe City, Incline Village and Kings Beach as well as locations in California and New Mexico.
The Northgate Movies 10 location was open for nearly 30 years before closing. The theater had lost business despite reducing ticket prices to $1 after the all-digital Galaxy Fandango Theater opened in south Carson City.
