After a technical glitch delayed unemployment payments for 100,000 Nevadans today, state officials say the problem should be resolved by 7 p.m.
Unemployment payments are distributed by a debit card system, which malfunctioned today, delaying deposits into those accounts.
The debit card vendor, ACS, will waive any fees that resulted from the glitch, such as balance inquires submitted from 12:01 a.m. today until the problem is resolved tonight, according to the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Cynthia Jones, the deputy director of DETR's employment security division, said the glitch would have been worse if the majority of Nevadans claiming unemployment were still receiving paper checks.
"Under this program, claimants receive their benefits two to three days faster than through the paper check method," Jones said. "If a similar technical issue had occurred with the old paper check system, the repair may have taken several days rather than the 14 hours."
About 95 percent of all unemployment benefits in Nevada are distributed through the debit card system.
