CHS student council honors outgoing director

One of last year's Carson High seniors, Chelsea Keating, came up with a vision of having an inauguration ceremony for members of the student council for the upcoming year. Keating's idea was not only a success last year, but is now a tradition. Last year, the ceremony was held in the big gym of Carson High School.

This year, the second annual inauguration ceremony was held on May 26 at the State Library and Archives. This ceremony was very successful with the help of Analiza Ong, Kellie Nguyen, Ms. Tartan and many others. The mayor performed the induction for all of next year's students. Furthermore, some of the administration and teachers attended. I would like to extend a big thanks to all of them for all they do throughout the year.

It is the last year for student activities director Jennifer Tartan. The members of student council all pitched in to purchase an award of recognition, an engraved silver note box, and a coach watch. Ms. Tartan will be remembered forever by this year's students. I think I can speak for the entire class when I say that Ms. Tartan has touched each of our lives. I hope that she will come back to teach the future student council classes once she has finished her schooling.

I give kudos to all the new and current members and, of course, the beloved student activities director, Jennifer Tartan.

Harry Reid works hard for all Nevadans

Let's finally face the truth about Harry Reid. As far as the health care reform bill is concerned, I haven't read the entire bill. Who has? AARP, for one, has, and they have endorsed it completely. I am certain it will help everyone, not only senior citizens, and am certain it will be caring and affordable for all U.S. citizens. Thanks Harry, for your efforts.

Thanks Harry Reid for standing up and preventing Yucca Mountain from becoming a dumpsite for the entire country's nuclear waste, as everyone was demanding. And what thanks did he get?

When it comes right down to it, Sen. Reid does care about every Nevada citizen personally. Recently, my grandson and his wife were being harassed unduly by a county agency, where they were so traumatized and stressed that their entire family and my husband and I feared that both adults would have a nervous breakdown. I tried to straighten it out on a county level, and then state level. Finally, in desperation, I called Sen. Reid's office. They verified our story and acted quickly. Tranquility was restored to our family, and the offending party found themselves being investigated.

Finally, I want to say that all in the Reid family are hard working, honest, and sincere. They have never brought any shameful or scandalous behavior to Nevada and they never will. If you don't vote for Sen. Reid, you will be sorry, and God help Nevada.

Principal didn't get due credit from letter writer

In your letter, Mr. Papke, you state, "The students, staff and faculty (of Silver State Charter School) deserve a salute for the school they have built over the past six years, and deserve the continued support of the community and the state."

Who had the vision? You? Who went through all the hoops necessary to establish a charter school? You? Who hired the teachers and staff? You? Who does all the advertising? You? No, Mr. Papke, you wouldn't have a school, a job or students if it weren't for the administrator/principal Mr. Knight.

Quoting your last paragraph: I also "urge this newspaper to formally take a stand in support of this school and the administration, and for our many supporters in the community to speak up on behalf of the school and let the Nevada State Board of Education know how you feel."
