HENDERSON (AP) - A Henderson police spokesman says a female driver is dead and a male passenger is wounded after officers opened fire at a stolen car backing toward them in an upscale gated community.
Police spokesman Keith Paul said Tuesday that officers cornered the vehicle on a dead-end street after reports that two people with guns stole a car about 8 p.m. Monday in the MacDonald Highlands community.
Police spent about 45 minutes trying to convince the two to surrender before Paul says the driver put the car into reverse and backed toward officers.
Paul says police opened fire, killing the driver and wounding the passenger. The man was hospitalized with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
Their identities weren't immediately made public.
