A burglar made his way into the Advocates to End Domestic Violence thrift store overnight, stealing petty cash, but leaving behind tickets to Taste of Downtown, a large fundraiser set for later this month.

According to the police report, about 9:30 a.m. this morning, an employee of Classy Seconds, 411 Hot Springs Road, arrived at work and found two safes had been tampered with.

The report states the bandit apparently used a sofa to climb into a hole that once housed a swamp cooler. Inside the thrift store, the burglar drilled into a safe and took a bank bag containing the store's petty cash. An attempt to drill into a second safe was unsuccessful and the burglar left without getting the loot inside - tickets to the June 19 event.

"That was a big sigh of relief," said Advocates Director Lisa Lee. "We were very lucky."

Lee said security was increased at the shop and the hole filled.

Anyone with information on the burglary can make an anonymous tip to Carson City Secret Witness at 322-4900. Secret Witness will pay up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals committing crimes.
