LAS VEGAS (AP) - Primary voting appears on pace for an expected turnout of about 25 percent in Las Vegas, the biggest city in a state where Republicans are picking a nominee to challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Clark County elections chief Larry Lomax reported no polling place snags Tuesday in the 289 polling places in and around Las Vegas.

He says 20,000 voters cast ballots by midmorning. He's projecting turnout at between 70,000 and 80,000. Polls are open until 7 p.m.

In state races, Republicans are deciding whether to nominate troubled Gov. Jim Gibbons for a second term or choose former federal judge Brian Sandoval to oppose Democrat Rory Reid, son of the powerful U.S. senator.

Election officials have been predicting turnout at 25 percent statewide.
