Out & About with Kim Riggs: Health clinic helps teens

Nevada currently ranks in the top 10 throughout the United States with the highest teenage pregnancy and birth rates. The available data is shocking and the prevention of teen pregnancy has always been a controversial subject. However I think education on programs such as abstinence-only combined with getting the word out that there are local programs available for teens, is not promoting sexual activity but a positive step to promote sexual responsibility. If you are in need of contraceptives, education about sexually transmitted diseases, a pregnancy test or would like to know more about options that are available, I would encourage you to stop in at the Carson City Health Clinic and see what they have to offer. I can tell you that all information is confidential, the cost for teens is free and that being proactive about your health will benefit you today and in your future. Many services are available on site, such as programs to stop smoking. There are several pamphlets for youths, so parents stop in and check out the publications on the pamphlet wall and grab the one on STDs. It might may your teen rethink if they knew exactly what's out there.
