Rep. Pete Goicoechea, R-Eureka, has been named the new minority leader for Assembly Republicans.

He succeeds Heidi Gansert of Reno who is not seeking re-election. The vote in the 14 member caucus was unanimous.

"Pete will be an outstanding leader and I know that he will push the party to victory this November," said Gansert.

Goicoechea, a rancher, said the goal is to elect additional Republicans to the Legislature. The party is currently outnumbered two to one in the Assembly.
