Carson High football coach Blair Roman put his Blue all-star squad through their first two workouts in preparations for Friday's Sertoma All-Star football game at the University of Nevada's Mackay Stadium.

The Blue team consists of players from Carson, Fernley. Galena, Bishop Manogue, Yerington, Fallon, Reno, Dayton, Silver Stage, Spring Creek, Sparks and Battle Mountain.

Roman ran an hour practice without pads, and then after an hour break, had his team padded up for a two-hour practice. He'll follow the same routine today and Wednesday.

"They were in pretty good shape," Roman said. "The kids' learning curve is so fast. They pick things up so fast."

As of now, Roman said that he'll have a roster of 44 players. The number was supposed to be 50, but several players selected opted not to play, and game rules don't allow for any subsitutions.

Roman has four quarterbacks on his roster - Carson's Blake Plattsmier. Yerington's Burke Bristol, Fernley's Bryce Baker and Galena's Beau Bickel.

Roman said that Bristol will only play defense on Friday.

"There just aren't enough reps," Roman said. The Carson coach said that Plattsmier and Baker will play some defense.

Carson will be represented by Plattsmier, linebacker Luke Carter, cornerback Josh Peacock, guard Will Flores, tackle Trevor Goodale, defensive tackle Ryan Hoskins, running back Mark Sinnott and two-way lineman Justin Barlow.

Dayton's offensive line duo of Justin Sabatoni and Jeff Peterson, and Dust Devil linebacker Ricky Bodine were selected to the squad.
