For the second day in a row, the Senior Thrift Store on Long Street was burglarized overnight Tuesday.

"It is just so sad, we just work so hard, and they got in again. Of course there was no cash there this time, but they took a watch and some other stuff," said Janice McIntosh, executive director of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center.

Monday morning, an employee found that someone cut a back fence, entered the thrift store through a rear window and broke into a safe, stealing $300 in cash.

McIntosh wondered who would steal from a non-profit whose mission is to feed senior citizens. Between the center's dining room and its Meals on Wheels programs, 300 meals are served daily, with donations and money earned in the thrift store used to purchase the food.

After the first burglary, McIntosh said Monday morning they would no longer keep money in the building. Then, they repaired the fence and sealed the window. But overnight the thief struck again.

"It's just so doggone frustrating," she said Tuesday. "It's scary that they are that bold."

The Senior Thrift Store was the third Carson thrift store targeted by an apparent serial burglar in recent days.

On June 4, A to Zen Gifts and Thrifts in the 1800 block of North Carson Street was burglarized overnight.

And overnight between June 7 and 8, the Advocates to End Domestic Violence Classy Seconds Thrift Store at 411 Hot Springs Road was burglarized, with two safes broken into and money stolen.

The burglaries are under investigation.
