Nevadans needing to visit a state welfare office should probably consider some other day than Fridays.
That's when the division has scheduled employee furloughs to meet the 4.6 percent budget cuts imposed by lawmakers. Administrator Romaine Gilliland said half the staff will be off on the first Friday on each month's schedule and the other half on the second Friday for the coming year, potentially causing longer wait times for services.
"Ideally, only those with an immediate need should plan to go to the office on a regularly scheduled furlough Friday," he said.
The first two Fridays on the schedule are July 9 and 23. Gilliland said the full schedule for the year will be posted on the division's website at dwss.nv.gov.
The schedule applies to all major offices in the state including Carson City and Fallon. He said smaller offices will have to handle furloughs differently.
