A few East Coast-based retailers have already expressed interest in the former Super Kmart building in Carson City that was purchased by a Reno company last week, said John Mulder, the Realtor with Premier Realty, Inc., who brokered the deal.
Mulder, the listing agent for the property, said the new owners will begin renovations on the building next week.
"I've got some pretty bright prospects for the building," he said, adding the transaction took more than a year.
"It was a pretty tough deal to do," Mulder said.
He said finding the right tenant will be key to revitalizing retail in north Carson City, including the North Town Plaza shopping center that houses the former Kmart.
The 170,000-square-foot building, vacant for about seven years, sold June 11 for $1.5 million to Jiangson Duke, LLC. Jack Rao of Sparks and Weiye Lin of Reno are listed as the firm's managers, according to Secretary of State's business registry.
Carlyle/Cypress Carson City LLC, a Dallas-based equity firm, had owned the property since 2006 after purchasing it for about $6.7 million.
The Wilmington Trust Co. of Delaware owns the underlying land, valued at $3.1 million.
