Witnesses of Washoe Valley stabbing sought

As they build a case against a Carson City man who allegedly told police he did it, Washoe County investigators are looking for witnesses of a stabbing on Highway 395 in Washoe Valley earlier this week.

Matthew Schoeppler, 30, is being held in the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony probation violation.

According to Washoe County Sheriff's Spokesman Deputy Armando Avina, Schoeppler is a suspect in the stabbing about 1 p.m. Monday in the area of Bellevue Road. In Washoe Valley

"Sheriff's Office Detectives have determined that Matthew Schoeppler, 30, was involved in a physical altercation with the victim in the Washoe Valley area, causing a puncture wound to the 39-year-old victim's chest. Matthew Schoeppler fled the area and the victim began seeking out medical help," said Avina in a press release.

A half hour after the stabbing, Carson City deputies were called out to Schoeppler's parent's home on Baker Drive after his father reported he was acting erratic. When a deputy arrived, Schoeppler allegedly said he stabbed the man and the knife was in his vehicle in the driveway.

Secret Witness is offering a reward in the amount of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
