Veterans ride through Carson City inspiring
As the State Farm sponsor of the Sea to Shining Sea Bike Ride in Carson City on May 28 I would like to thank those people who helped make our wounded veterans feel welcome in our city. We had so much help and cooperation from everyone.
The Nevada Appeal was very attentive. They sent a reporter to the event on the Capitol steps and mentioned our event five times in the paper. My receptionist called Nevada Seating and Mobility to see if we could buy a wheel chair for one of our veterans who normally uses a cane, and Star Kuzbyt of Nevada Seating donated a wheel chair for his use during the ride across the country.
Dan Kimm from High Sierra Hypnotherapy donated his services as a mobile DJ to play some patriotic music as the group gathered in front of the Capitol. Miss Nevada U.S. sang the Star Spangled Banner and brought tears to the eyes of many on that Veterans Day weekend.
One of the Douglas County Sheriff's officers who guided our riders down Highway 50 contacted Harley Davidson to fabricate a part for one of the recumbent bikes that wasn't working properly.
The governor and his staff were very welcoming to the group as were the Highway Patrolmen who escorted them through town. Watching them ride and talking to these veterans was a life-changing experience for me. They really are proving that disabled Americans can lead productive lives and accomplish feats that are mere dreams for ordinary people. You might want to follow them across the country at www.s2ssbikeride.org.

Thanks for great 8th grade promotion party
The Carson Middle School Celebration Committee would like to thank and acknowledge the many individuals and businesses that helped to make our eighth-grade promotion and party a success. Many thanks to our CMS PTA for their generous financial contribution.
We would especially like to thank the many businesses who came forth and supported us: Sausage Factory, Swire Coca Cola, Madeline's Cookies, CVS Store, Raley's, Capital Beverage, McDonalds, and Casino Fandango.
A special thanks to Cherise Whitt who coordinated all of the food and donations from our great business partners. Our decorating committee coordinators, Heather Blueberg and Lori Streeter, who did a fabulous job.
To the great staff at CMS who helped with all the details, you were great. Mrs. Joellen Powers, Mr. Dan Sadler, Mr. Gavin Ward, Kieth Ouellette, and his custodial staff, thanks for making the day go smooth despite all the last minute changes.
Lastly and so important, all of the eighth-grade parents who made a financial contribution or gave of their time to help with planning, decorating, set-up and clean-up, we thank you, we could not have done it without you.
Gratefully,
Lu Ann Tucker

She is a great principal and the following are some of the reasons why: She is a leader who is very caring, sincere, and full of energy. She is very professional and is respected by the parents and staff of Hugh Gallagher Elementary.
Please join me in acknowledging the principal known as "Mrs. V" for a great year, and if there is an award for Best Principal of the Year she has my vote.

Retiree grateful for community
A huge thank-you to the business communities of Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.
After 27 years of employment with the State of Nevada, I've decided to retire. I would like to extend an appreciation to all for having allowed me to work with you regarding services/programs you may have needed.
I've appreciated your candor, as well as your support and trust, having learned a lot from each and every one of you.
I wish all of you the best as each community continues working together to develop as well as nurture the communities in which we live.
