Chili Cook-off

Mmmm. Taster's are wanted for the annual chili cook-off at Glen Eagles Restaurant. Participants receive a ballot to vote for their favorite chili.

Come down and try the traditional red chili, chili verde or other homemade recipes.

There will be the Judges Award, and that's OK, but I think the bragging rights go the Peoples Choice award. So swing by and cast a vote for the best chili in Carson. Will it be the favorite, Doctor P, or a newcomer? Stop by for a taste.

WHAT: International Chili Cook-off

WHERE: Glen Eagles parking lot, 3700 N. Carson St.

WHEN: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. July 3 and 4

CONTACT: Glen Eagles at 884-4414

LOCAL FARMERS MARKET

This event notice is because I am selfish, and need my mom to cut this out and go shopping for strawberries. Every summer she makes her world- famous strawberry jam and, yes, she gets her fresh strawberries from the vendors at the Pony Express Pavilion.

If you want farm-fresh veggies, fruit, great barbecue rubs, honey, dip mixes, flowers and lavender lotions, there's no limit to what you'll find.

It's all homemade and fresh.

If you can't get to the Wednesday market, there is also one Saturday at 3rd and Curry streets so you can stroll downtown and check the goodies.

WHAT: Farmers Markets in Carson City

WHEN: 3:30-7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Pony Express Pavilion at Mills Park; and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 3rd and Curry streets.

CARSON HIGH SENATORS SUMMER SLAM BASKETBALL CAMP

My boys always enjoyed this basketball camp for years and yours will, too. Of course, head coach Bruce Barnes and assistant coach Carlos Menduguia make this fun, but first and foremost they teach the children much needed basketball skills.

I am a big fan of the Senators Summer Slam Camp and the Sixth Man Club, giving children a fun and safe learning environment.

The camp promotes the positive in teaching girls and boys the basics needed to hit the courts. Sign up early, space is limited, and you will receive a discount that way, too. Each camper receives a basketball and T-shirt.

WHAT: Carson High Basketball Camp

WHERE: Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Road

WHEN: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 19-20
