130 YEARS AGO

Exit the Savage: After some discussion, the Indian noticed a Knight's Illustrated edition of Shakespeare and gave it notice. Seeing nothing coming good out of this, the reporter rose to lift a fiddle to his neck and attempted an operatic rendition. The Piute's face assumed a grave report. "Me no likee too muchee fiddle. You play fiddle at Washoes evly sona gonna run away." And in another moment he vanished through the door.

100 YEARS AGO

Ivy Baldwin made the first real flight with his flying machine at the Raycraft ranch this afternoon. The craft rose quickly to 35 feet and started across the field. The successful flight assures the Sagebrush Carnival as one of the finest aviation meets that has been seen on the coast.

70 YEARS AGO

A town composed of 80 white families which have been out of contact with civilization for 25 years was discovered at the mouth of the Rio Pinquen in the southeast corner of Peru by Peruvian aviators. The isolated community in the Madre de Dios mountains. Not only were they ignorant of the present war, but were unaware of the last World War.

50 YEARS AGO

Want to get into the movies? Several hundred residents of the Carson City-Reno area will get a chance this summer when the production crew arrives for "The Misfits." The film stars Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable.

20 YEARS AGO

Balladeer Glenn Yarborough has been named grand marshal of the Fourth of July parade in Carson City. Glenn will perform live prior to the fireworks at Mills Park.
