The cause of a fire that damaged two southeast Carson City homes Sunday afternoon remains under investigation, said Fire Chief Stacey Giomi.

Firefighters were called out to the 3300 block of Dilday Drive about 3:30 p.m. When crews arrived, the north end of the home at 3300 Dilday was ablaze, and the south end of the home next door at 3260 was also on fire, said Giomi.

There were no tenants home at the time, but neighbors were able to open doors and allow six dogs and three cats to escape the flames.

Damage for both is estimated between $150,000 and $200,000.

Giomi said the fire appears to have started outside between the homes.

He said explosions neighbors reported hearing were likely a result of the fire.

"As near as we can tell at this point those did not play any factor in the start of the fire," he said.
