Authorities released today the name of a man killed during a road race in Storey County on Saturday.
Las Vegas entrepreneur and racing fanatic Alexander Djordjevic, 37, was northbound on State Route 341, when his 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo went off a 150-foot embankment, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen.
"He approached a curve in the roadway too fast, applied the brakes and lost control of his vehicle as it departed the highway. His vehicle traveled down an embankment and rolled over before coming to rest on its wheels," said Allen.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Djordjevic was participating in the Spectre 341 Challenge, a timed racing event.
Spectre341challenge.com, the official website, touts the course, known to locals as the truck route between Silver City and Virginia City, as, "5.2 miles long with 22-plus turns, a 1,216-foot rise in elevation, steep drop offs and no guardrails! "
The two-lane highway had been closed to the public Friday and Saturday for the sanctioned road-racing event. Race officials had secured a special use permit from the Nevada Department of Transportation that had also been approved by the Lyon and Storey County officials.
According to nowbackitup.com, Djordevic has written several patents, and been involved in the development of restaurants, bars, Internet start ups and Las Vegas casinos. His Venture Capital Company has seven different corporations under its wing.
He was recently shopping around a telelvision program called "Now Back it Up," and had been featured on Speed TV programs "PINKS" and "Supercars Exposed."
