LAS VEGAS (AP) - A judge in Las Vegas has set a preliminary hearing for a 33-year-old man accused of killing a 4-month-old baby and critically wounding the child's mother with a medieval-style battle ax.

Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson on Wednesday set the hearing for April 12 for Harold E. Montague. Montague is charged with murder with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

Public defender Norm Reed says Montague is paranoid and delusional, but his mental state has not been fully evaluated.

Montague was arrested after the Feb. 11 attack.

Police say he repeatedly stabbed his profoundly disabled sister-in-law in their home before bursting outside and attacking the mother and child in the street.
