A Carson High student was arrested Tuesday after a tenant at an apartment complex across from the school took pictures of three teens smoking pot before school.

Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Rick Dodds said the man saw the students and decided to surreptitiously take pictures.

"They were near Smoker's Corner passing a pipe around so this guy gets his digital camera," Dodds said.

Dodds said the man then called police at 7:39 a.m. Dodds took the photos to the dean of students, who identified all three, he said.

Dodds arrested one of the three on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Smoker's Corner is on the east end of Mills Park. Students congregate there before, during and after school, smoking cigarettes, which are banned on school property, or socializing.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said tenants at the nearby complex have complained often about the crowds and the trash they leave behind.

"(This tenant) had an observation and he actually did something about it. I appreciate what he did," Furlong said. "That's the community working

together."
