Rotary to roast

Tickets are on sale for the second annual Rotary Roast, 6 p.m. Friday, March 12 at the Carson Nugget.

This year's "roastee" is State Sen. Mark Amodei of Carson City.

Last year's event roasted former Mayor Marv Teixeira, who will get his chance to give as good as he got as one of the celebrity roasters. Also scheduled to roast the senator are Reno Mayor Bob Cashell, Judge John Tatro, WNC vice president of development Helaine Jesse, attorney Steve Hartman and others.

Tickets cost $85 or premier seating for $100, with discounts for tables of eight, and include dinner and a charity auction.

Talking Wall seeks artists, writers

The Kids' Talking Wall is seeking young writers and artists at the Carson Mall, 1313 S. Carson St.

The Kid's Talking Wall is a place for children to express their feelings through letters, essays or artwork. Schools, churches or other organizations interested in participating can schedule pickup arrangements with Partnership Carson City by calling 841-4730, ext. 201 or by e-mail to carole@partnership

The next Talking Wall event is scheduled for March 13 at the mall. The Carson City Symphony Strings in the Schools will perform from 1-2 p.m. under the direction of Sue Kitts.

Democrats to host Jefferson Jackson dinner on March 25

The Carson City Democratic Central Committee will hold its annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner at 5:30 p.m. March 25 at the Carson Nugget.

Keynote speakers will be Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and candidate for Nevada Governor Rory Reid. Candidates for other local and state offices also will be present including Jessica Sferazza, Robert Randazzo, Robin Williamson, Ken Furlong and Bob White. Introductory note will be by Nevada Press Association Executive Director Barry Smith.

Raffle prizes and a silent auction will be held.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters fun-raiser set

A "fun-raiser" is planned to help raise money for the new Big Brothers and Big Sisters office in Carson City.

Juan's Mexican Grill will serve fresh potato soup with a piece of crusty bread for $5 from noon to 4 p.m. March 17 at the Horseshoe Club Casino, 402 N. Carson St.

Free soda and complimentary cake will be offered and hot seat drawings for cash will be held all day.

Happy Senior Tour next week

The Carson City Senior Citizens Happy Senior tour group's March outing will be Tuesday, March 9 to the Silver Legacy in Reno.

The bus will load at 7:45 a.m., in the east parking lot of the senior center.

It will depart at 8:15 a.m. sharp and return to the center at 4 p.m.
