The Silver State Gymnastics Academy Level 3 team won its third straight team title, capturing the Starz and Stripes Invitational in Reno.
Lilly Reid, 8, received the top scores in each event -vault (9.75), beam (9.45), floor (9.60), bars (9.70) and all-around (38.50).
Teammate Brianna Wiles was second to Reid in all the events, while Sophia Taggart placed third on the bars, fourth on the floor and fifth in the all-around.
In the 9-11 age group, Breanna Mitchell took two seconds and two thirds en route to second place in the all-around. Hitha Segu placed third on vault and fourth on bars en route to a sixth place in all-around.
The final meet of the season is the High Sierra Springfest at High Sierra Gymnastics in Reno.
Trouble Makers
in the lead
Trouble Makers leads Role Models by one point in the Mosconi Division of the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.
Trouble Makers has 31 points and Role Models 30. The Big Dogs are in third with 28 points. Casey Richards of Support Rackless Habits leads the 4-5 tier with 28 points, 11 ahead of William Kenson from Trouble Makers.
Alex Gutierrez of Role Models leads the 6-7 tier with 28 points, while David Giovacchini was second with 25. Brandy Delaney of Cues Yer Daddy leads the 2-3 tier with 18 points, one better than William Bollman of Trouble Makers.
The Scratch Masters lead the Comstock Division with 583 points, 22 ahead of Twisted Stix.
Kirsten Kehe of Twisted Stix leads the 4-5 tier with 26 points, five ahead of Tommy's Donald Smart Jr. Frederick Osterhagen and Don Allred, both of Scratch Masters, are tied for the top spot in the 6-9 tier with 18 points apiece.
Gloria Rodriguez leads the 1-3 tier with 22 points, while James Panos of Scratch Masters is second with 19 points.
Local hoop club
starts next week
Nothing But Nylon Basketball Klub, a local basketball group under the direction of Carson girls varsity coach Todd Ackerman, gets under way next Monday at Carson High School.
The group, which is open to boys and girls, will run from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday nights.
The cost is $10 per day or $15 per week.
Shooting, passing, ballhandling and defense will be emphasized. If there are enough players in any age group, there will be travel to Sacramento for tournaments.

Carson High girls
win state award
The Carson High girls varsity basketball team won the state academic award for having the highest grade point average in the state.
The Carson team, including managers, achieved a team GPA of 3.74. The team accepted the award at the state 4A finals last Friday at Lawlor Events Center.
Sunchaser Challenge
set for May 22
The annual Sunchaser Challenge is schedule for May 22 at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort.
Entrants will run, kayak and bike their way through the scenery of North Lake Tahoe.
There are 50 checkpoints scattered throughout the course to 'rescue' endangered species.
There will be between seven and 10 discipline loops, ranging from one to three hours in length and there will be optional routes ranging from easy to challenging.
There are individual and team competitions.
The cost is $125 per person before March 31 and $150 from April 1st on.

Adult hoop event
in Virginia City
The Mucker Madness basketball tournament, sponsored by the Virginia City High Booster Club, is scheduled for March 19-21.
The cost is $300 and each team is guaranteed four games. The winner is determined by points accumulated for wins, points scored and participation in social events at the Bucket of Blood.
All proceeds go to the VC High School Booster Club.

Arnold gets PR
in pole vault
Mike Arnold won the pole vault for Idaho State at the Big Sky Indoor Championship clearing 17-3 3⁄4, a career-best for the sophomore.
The mark was almost a foot higher than the second-place vault notched by Eastern Washington's Bed Cogdill (16-6).
This is Arnold's second straight conference championship in the event as he took first-place in the 2009 Big Sky Outdoor Championship last May as a freshman. Arnold finished in a four-way tie for third in the pole vault at the 2009 Big Sky Indoor Championships.
Arnold has also placed first in all of his competitions except for one this indoor season.
Arnold holds the fifth-best mark on the Idaho State all-time top-10 performance list and is fourth among the all-time top 10 performers.
Martinez Sr. gets
first career ace
Bebop Martinez Sr. aced the 147-yard fourth hole at Eagle Valley-East on Feb. 20.
Martinez used an 8-iron for his first career hole-in-one. His tee shot landed about five feet from the hole and rolled in.
Ryan and Seth Argust and Bebop Martinez Jr. witnessed the shot.
